Episode #18 - June 19, 2019
Scott Parker: Hello one and all and welcome to Hype! We’re live inside the Warehouse in Long Island City, NY. Our main event tonight will see the Primetime Championship on the line as Josh Goldstein defends against Talia Areano.
Gemma Foster: Talia has been eager for this opportunity in Empire Wrestling. This is exactly why she made that statement by taking out her former partner, Azurine Vebbins. She’s wanted to prove she’s just as good solo and this is how she can do it.
Scott Parker: Goldstein has had a great run and it’s going to be hard to beat him.
Gemma Foster: We’ll also find out who will go on to face Samantha Hamilton and challenge for the Extreme Championship at Next Level: Victorem. It should be a great night!
Samantha Hamilton Vs. Casey Grey
The Extreme Champion was out first and she was given a warm welcome from the crowd. Grey was out next and was quick to the ring.
Gemma Foster: It’s been a rough couple of months for Casey Grey.
Grey came right to the middle of the ring and popped Hamilton with a right hand!
Scott Parker: And Casey came for a fight!
The two competitors exchanged blows before Grey sent Hamilton into the ropes. Hamilton returned with a shoulder block that dropped Grey. Grey popped up to her feet and locked up with the Extreme Champion. Grey tried to get Hamilton into the corner but Hamilton spun around and was able to get Grey back first into the corner. Hamilton drove a knee into the gut of her opponent before hitting a hip toss. Grey rolled to her feet and was hit with a spear! Hamilton jumped up and pulled Grey to her feet. Grey looked for a hip toss of her own but was sent into the ropes and hit with a spinebuster. Hamilton was fired up and kicked Grey in the gut as she stood and looked for her Wrath Of The Titans (Pedigree) but Grey was able to hit a back drop. Hamilton stood and turned right into the Breath Mint (Forearm Smash). Grey pulled Hamilton to her feet slowly and tried to lift her onto her shoulders. Grey was looking for the GTO (Fisherman Driver) but Hamilton struggled and Grey dropped her. Hamilton locked in the Exiled To Tartarus (Sleeper Hold). Grey pushed herself into the corner, driving Hamilton back first into the turnbuckle. Grey lifted Hamilton to the top ropes and started to follow. The match was interrupted by Rune on the big screen.
Scott Parker: What does she want?
We see Rune standing there and there’s a car off in the distance.
Gemma Foster: Is that Casey’s car?
Fenryr and Karli can be seen swinging sledge hammers on the car. Casey looks on in shock and jumps out of the ring and started to rush to the parking lot. The referee starts a count and Casey is counted out as Hamilton leaned on the ropes in confusion.
WINNER: Samantha Hamilton via countout @ 7:03
Bait and Switch
Casey runs through the back of the warehouse and out into the parking lot where Fenryr and Karli are still smashing Buttercup to bits. Casey grabs Karli by the hair and yanks her to the ground. Fenryr grabs Casey before she can start doing any damage and slams her down. Karli climbs on top of Casey and starts punching her while Fenryr resumes smashing the car as Rune stands by, encouraging him. Suddenly Karli lets out a scream as Casey has wormed her way onto her side and taken a huge bite of her leg. Fenryr turns around and grabs Casey as Karli backs away, slamming her on the hood of the car. Then he grabs her with a rear choke as Karli grabs one of the sledgehammers.
Rune Sigidottir: You think this is real? Casey, I told you. I meant it. Buttercup is gone. Crushed. Flat as a pancake.
Casey kicks at Rune. Rune easily dodges her, then reaches out to brush a lock of hair out of Casey’s face.
Rune Sigidottir: You should have seen the look on the guys face when Karli told him to crush it. I’ve seen the video, he looked at her like she was stupid. I’ll post it on YouTube. We can all watch it and laugh together, if you’d like.
Casey kicks at Rune again. This time she connects, but the force is weak. It is easily apparent that she is fading.
Rune Sigidottir: Karli, take her legs. They’re annoying me.
Karli swings the hammer back, but before she can strike, she drops it behind her. Rune, Karli, and Fenryr turn and back away and across the lot as Alicia Monroe runs out. For some reason, Ragnarok gives her space.
Alicia Monroe: Get. Away from us.
Rune Sigidottir: Next Level, Alicia. We’re going to end you and that so-called cousin of yours. Do your best to get ready, little girl, but I know your work ethic. You can't help but lose.
Alicia turns back to help Casey, who is coughing and holding her neck, but is getting back to her feet.
Alicia Monroe: You okay?
Casey nods.
Casey Grey: I’m sorry, Alicia. I…I should have known. This isn't a GTO—
Alicia Monroe: Casey. She told you she crushed the car. Do you have any reason to doubt her? Let it go. It’s over.
Alicia walks away. Casey watches her walk away for a moment. She looks back at the car before following her.
Lacy Nelson Vs. Kayla Taylor
Taylor had her partner and one half of the Tag Team Champions, Krista May Williams, with her at ringside. Nelson went to toss her hat into the crowd but the frisbee’d it into the face of Taylor before spearing her to the mat.
Scott Parker: And a cheap opening there from Lacy.
Nelson popped to her feet and hit the ropes, looking for a running leg drop but Taylor rolled out of the way and Nelson landed on her butt. Taylor dropped down and connected with an elbow to the side of the neck. Taylor brought Nelson back to her feet before sending her into the corner. She charged but ran right into a back elbow to the face. Nelson used the opening to charge but ran into a spinning powerslam.
Gemma Foster: The Tag Team Champion staying one step ahead of Lacy Nelson here so far.
Taylor pulled Nelson back to her feet after a pin attempt only got her one. Taylor lifted Nelson up for a suplex but Nelson twisted and landed behind Taylor. Nelson hit a northern lights suplex and flipped backwards and lifted Taylor up seamlessly and right up into a brainbuster!
Scott Parker: She calls that the Silk and Lace!
Nelson was fired up as she stood and stomped around the ring. Williams jumped onto the apron and caused a distraction as Nelson turned to her. She swung and lunged at her but missed as Williams jumped off the apron. Taylor rolled Nelson up from behind and the referee was in position for the count and got two before Nelson kicked out. Taylor couldn’t believe it and got to her feet. Nelson was up right after and popped Taylor in the jaw with a superkick! Taylor staggered and it opened her up for Nelson to hit the Headline (Eat Defeat). Williams was back on the apron and Nelson caught her with a superkick. Nelson got Taylor into a cover and picked up the pinfall.
WINNER: Lacy Nelson via pinfall @ 9:04
Nelson stood over Taylor and pointed above her in the middle of the ring.
Gemma Foster: I think Lacy is calling her shot. She wants that contract at Next Level: Victorem.
Scott Parker: Can you imagine if she had a contract for any title at any time she wanted? She’s made a living off surprise attacks for months.
#1 Contendership Match for the Extreme Championship
Gio DeLuca Vs. Allen Chaney Vs. Kaito Hirano
The match started with Hirano swinging a kendo stick around and cracked both Chaney and DeLuca across the skull. Chaney dropped to a knee but stood right back up and caught Hirano with a big forearm and right into a discus clothesline. Chaney turned and caught DeLuca with a spinebuster. There was a trash can in the ring and Chaney set it up in the corner between the second and top turnbuckle. Hirano was up to his feet and hit Chaney with a jumping heel kick to the face that staggered him into the opposite corner. Hirano charged and hit a big corner splash. DeLuca charged and hit a clothesline on Chaney in the corner. Hirano charged but ran into a big boot. DeLuca charged and ran into a big boot as well. Chaney clotheslined both men to the mat. Chaney lifted DeLuca up and pulled him to the corner. He lifted him up into a powerbomb across the ring and into the trash can. Chaney was fired up and turned into a kick to the gut from Hirano.
Scott Parker: Fast paced action here tonight. All three of these men want a shot at the Extreme Championship.
Chaney was to a knee and Hirano connected with a tilt a whirl headscissors that spiked Chaney’s head into the mat. Hirano stomped on Chaney as he slowly sat up. He connected with hard kicks to the chest and back of Chaney before hitting the ropes and he looked for the Yoi Yume O [Sweet Dreams] (Running Knee to knelt opponent) but Chaney ducked it. Hirano stumbled and grabbed at his knee.
Gemma Foster: I think Kaito tried to slow himself seeing Chaney moving and he might have tweeked his knee. DeLuca used the opening to hit Hirano with a pair of brass knuckles. DeLuca was about to go for a cover before Chaney grabbed him and hit the Punchline (Package Piledriver). Hirano was slowly stirring and Chaney hit him with the Aristocrats (Curb Stomp)! Chaney covered and picked up the pinfall win.
WINNER: Allen Chaney via pinfall @ 10:11
We went backstage and saw Zoey Mathews-Mitchell getting ready for the upcoming match. She had been watching a replay of her match with Daniel Daemon from Hype 17.
Sara Logan: Rumor is you’ve been watching this match all night long.
Logan appeared behind Zoey and gave her a smile.
Zoey Mathews-Mitchell: I want the demon. I know that I can beat him.
Sara Logan: Are you wanting in the Victorem Ladder Match?
Zoey Mathews-Mitchell: No. I want another shot at the man himself. I don’t want to wait.
Logan thought it over and turned to exit.
Sara Logan: We’ll let the champ decide.
#1 Contendership Match for the Extreme Championship
Lio Welsh Vs. Austin Scott Vs. Zoey Mathews-Mitchell
This match never got started as Mathews-Mitchell attacked Welsh in the backstage area after leaving the locker room.
Scott Parker: Zoey trying to send a message to the champion! She wants Daniel Daemon!
Austin Scott was near and joined in the madness but Mathews-Mitchell quickly tossed him hard into a set of lockers in the hallway. Walsh was able to get in a few good shots before trainers were pulling the two of them apart.
Primetime Championship Match
Talia Areano Vs. Josh Goldstein (c)
After we came back from the break we learned that at the next Hype we’d see Walsh versus Scott in one on one action for the other spot in the Extreme Championship match and that Zoey Mathews-Mitchell would compete in a gauntlet match and if she wins she’ll compete against Daniel Daemon at Next Level: Victorem.
Scott Parker: It’s main event time!
Both Areano and Goldstein were ready to go as the champion held up his championship. The bell sounded and we were underway quickly. The two locked hands and pushed each other around the room. Talia ran up the turnbuckle with one hand locked with Goldstein. She flipped off and sent him across the ring with a toss. Both were to their feet and Golstein was there with a headscissors takedown. Both right back up and Talia jumped up looking for a headscissors of her own but Goldstein caught her in a powerbomb position and delivered a bucklebomb. Goldstein then delivered a sunset flip right into a pin and got two before Areano kicked out.
Gemma Foster: A great start to this match here tonight. The champion is looking strong.
Areano fought up to her feet and caught the champ with a forearm to the face and then quickly hit a European uppercut. She continued her combo of strikes with a spinning backfist that staggered Goldstein. Areano then dropped him with a spinning heel kick. As Goldstein hit the mat, Areano hit him with a picture perfect standing moonsault. She hooked a leg for a cover and just got two as he kicked out.
Scott Parker: A nice series of events there from Talia!
Areano pulled Goldstein to his feet and sent him into the corner. She charged and hit a corner splash. She followed it with a running bulldog out of the corner. Areano climbed to the top of the turnbuckle and readied herself. She came off looking for the Solar Shower (Double Foot Stomp) but Goldstein rolled out of the way and to his feet. Both were up and Goldstein hit his Hannukanrana (Reverse Hurricanrana). Areano staggered to her feet and the two both charged and hit a double clothesline.
Gemma Foster: Both competitors giving it their all here tonight! That’s what the Primetime Championship means to both of them.
Goldstein had the edge when it came to getting back to his feet first. Areano got up and clobbered him with a hard right hand and Goldstein took it. She landed a second blow and he started to get fired up. A third shot and Goldstein was pounding his chest. He blocked the fourth shot and hit her with the Jewish Mallat (Polish Hammer). Goldstein eyed Areano as she started to stand and he delivered the Brooklyn Quebrada (Springboard Moonsault inverted DDT). He hooked a leg and got the three but Areano had her foot on the rope and the referee waved it off.
Scott Parker: Great ring awareness by Talia!
Goldstein was now in the corner and was stomping his foot, stalking Areano. She was up and he came flying out of the corner and hit the Chutzpah Boot (Running Bicycle Kick). He looked for the Dreidel Drop (Somersault Leg Drop) but Areano rolled out of the way. Areano was to her feet and hit Goldstein with a hard buzzsaw kick to the head and then a standing Solar Shower. Areano dropped into a cover and almost had three but Goldstein kicked out. Both competitors were moving slowly now and Areano pulled Goldstein to his feet. She looked for the Slice of Heaven (Sliced Bread #2) but Goldstein countered and flipped her backwards over his shoulders. Areano landed on her feet and looked for a roll up from behind. She had his shoulders pinned to the mat for two and he countered it into a roll up of his own. Goldstein got a two count before Areano was able to slip away. Both competitors got to their feet and Goldstein looked for another Hannukanrana but Areano had him up in the air. She hit Goldstein with an electric chair drop and flipped backwards and sat on his chest for a cover but only got two. She stood and hit another standing Solar Shower!
Gemma Foster: Those stomps to the chest have to be making it hard to breath for the champion.
Areano covered and once again only got two. She started to get frustrated and pulled Goldstein to his feet and sent him into the corner. She lifted him up to the top ropes slowly and followed after him. She was looking for a superplex but Goldstein blocked it. He landed a headbutt to try and get her to fall off the top but she held onto him. Goldstein started to lift her for a brainbuster but she kicked her legs and landed back safely on the top rope. She jumped up and hit a top rope frakensteiner right into a pin as the fans aww’ed she got the three count!

Scott Parker: Talia Areano has done it! She’s the Primetime Champion!
Gemma Foster: What a match, Scott. These two put it all on the line here tonight and are getting a standing ovation.
Areano sat in aww as she held onto her prize.
Gemma Foster: This match could have gone either way. I can’t wait until these two go again.
We get a final shot of Areano leaning on the ropes with the title over her head before we fade away.
Gemma Foster: Talia has been eager for this opportunity in Empire Wrestling. This is exactly why she made that statement by taking out her former partner, Azurine Vebbins. She’s wanted to prove she’s just as good solo and this is how she can do it.
