August 13, 2020. 9:14 pm. Long Island City, New York. Inside the Empire Warehouse. The back row from the ring, about 10 rows..
We see the hero of this story, Lacy Nelson, as she sits in one of the seats that have been empty since March 28th. She has her feet propped up on the one in front of her, sunglasses on, a baseball cap turned backwards. The Empire Wrestling World Championship sits in the seat beside her as she looks over to it and then down to the ring, the camera angled at her face.
Lacy Nelson: 24 hours. In roughly 24 hours I’ll be in that ring for a match that I’ve been dreaming of for over a year. April 17th, 2019. The one and only time that FM and I competed in singles action and that match ended in a double count-out.
She gave a small smile as she removed her sunglasses and hung them on the front of her shirt.
Lacy Nelson: From the moment I showed up in this company our paths have been intertwined. I came here looking to make headlines and I do so at the expense of FM. We tore into each other for weeks, months, and in multi-man matches but only singles action one time. She stole my Victorem briefcase the night I won it and didn’t even let me celebrate it. Fast forward and now she’s the one with the briefcase but I won’t let her celebrate. To me, the briefcase was a way to be the headline. Will she, won’t she type of thing. To FM, it’s a way to climb the mountain again and be the champion.
Lacy reached over and picked up the title before putting it in her lap. She took a deep breath as she looked down at it.
Lacy Nelson: At least, that’s what a lot of people might want you to think about me. Sure, when I first won the briefcase it was about the headline. Now? Now that I have this championship I don’t want to let it go. It’s more than the headline, now. I’m proud of the journey that I’ve been on and I’m excited to be the champion of Empire Wrestling. This company is something special and I know that my name in the history books will be something important years from now. Now, I want to keep this prize because it means I’m the best in Empire Wrestling. I also know what that means.
She takes a second to adjust herself in her seat and then looks at the camera.
Lacy Nelson: It means everyone is coming for me. So far, I’ve been able to take on everyone that has come. I also know what winning this championship would mean to FM. I know why she came back to Empire Wrestling and that this championship is a big part of it.
Looking around the empty Warehouse, Lacy takes another deep breath and pulls her feet in and sits up.
Lacy Nelson: These seats have been empty for so long. In fact, no one has ever sat in them while I’ve been the champion. I can only imagine the roar of the fans every time I step out onto the stage. The hero of the story, ready to do battle.
She turns to her left now, the seat has a “L2N” shirt draped over it.
Lacy Nelson: I know there’s still tons of questions about L2N. That’s for another day, another story. FM, just know that AJ won’t be sitting ringside. He won’t be walking around the ring or getting involved in our match… that’s not what we are about.
Lacy is looking directly into the camera now as it pulls in on her face.
Lacy Nelson: FM. I’m ready for you. I’m ready for this fight. I will be throwing everything at you that I can and if you don’t stay down I’ll throw it all at you a second time. My foot is going to reacquaint itself with your face. I am the headline. I am the EW World Champion.
She puts her sunglasses back on with a smirk as we fade out to black.
