Episode #36 - May 1, 2020
Gemma Foster: Welcome everyone to another episode of Hype! I am back behind the desk tonight and while I’m grateful it’s for a reason that I’d rather have avoided. On an update from last week and the attack by Daniel DAemon to Scott Parker, Scott will be out for a couple more weeks. The show must go on however and tonight it’s a good one! Two members of the Grrrls will be competing, a new member to the roster in a team called the Crew, Dave Blazenwing takes on Harvey Carbine, and we see the World Champion Lacy Nelson taking on former Extreme Champion Austin Scott in the main event.
A New Prize
In the ring stood Sara Logan and beside her was a table with the new Empire Wrestling World Championship. She had a microphone in hand and started to speak.
Sara Logan: As many saw earlier this week, we announced on Twitter that we have a brand new World Championship belt. Throughout history white has signaled deity. The white strap of the championship is regal and will represent Empire Wrestling well. The lions on the side plates, the king of beasts. The lion symbolizes strength, majesty, and courage. The crown, well, just a nice touch. Ladies and gentlemen, the World Champion, Lacy Nelson!
“Come and Get It” by I Prevail started to play and out came Lacy Nelson in her L2N jacket. She looked down to the ring with wide eyes and a big smile. She walked down to the ring and climbed to the apron.
Gemma Foster: That’s one good looking championship.
Nelson climbed into the ring and shook Logan’s hand. Logan presented the championship to Nelson and raised her hand. Nelson looked at the title and smiled again, patting the big plate. She put it on her shoulder and picked up a microphone.
Lacy Nelson: I don’t want to take up too much time because I’m really excited to see some of the action tonight. I know everyone at home is too. That being said, I saw the end of last week’s show. I saw team after team after team standing out here with all of them gunning for something. I said last week that I know there’s a target on my back and that’s not going to change.
Nelson adjusted the championship and looked up at the ramp.
Lacy Nelson: Last week, during a little chat time on Aftershock, I was attacked. There’s someone out there wearing a mask and a hood who seems to want to end me. I get it. I’m not liked by everyone. I know that they won’t be the only one that wants to take this title from me. Any of the GRRRLs, Danny, Macbeth, it doesn’t matter. The headline will always read the same, me as champion.
She looked into the camera and smiled as we cut away.
Bailey Mayhew Vs. Josh Williams w/ Jack Williams
Bailey Mayhew hit the stage first and seemed excited to be there. She pointed to her armband with “GRRRLS” written on it with a big smile.
Gemma Foster: The homegrown girl Bailey Mayhew returned two weeks ago at Next Level: Revolution as a member of the squad, the Grrrls. She must be excited to have her first match back here in Empire Wrestling since April 17th of 2019 at Next Level: Revolution! The Next Level event was eventful for the Grrrls as it marked nearly a year long return of both Mayhew and Zoey Mathews-Mitchell.
Mayhew had made her way down to the ring and fixed her elbow pads as she stretched on the second rope. Jack and Josh Williams of the Crew jogged out to the stage and shared a forearm bump and a high five. The two started to make their way down to the ring with their focus on Mayhew.
Gemma Foster: Josh Williams is going to be competing here tonight with his brother and tag team partner at ringside. Let’s see what he can do in his first match here in Empire Wrestling.
Williams and Mayhew circled around the ring before locking up. Mayhew flipped Williams to the mat and locked in a headlock. Williams quickly slipped away and flipped Mayhew over with a snapmare and hit her with a knee to the back. Williams pulled Mayhew to her feet and sent her to the ropes before dropping her with a flapjack. He popped up to his feet but Mayhew was right up as well. He took a big swing and Mayhew ducked and countered with a swinging neckbreaker. Williams rolled to his feet and was hit with a big palm strike to the chest before taking an uppercut. Mayhew looked for the Into the Sunset (Asai DDT) but Williams pushed her away. She turned and he caught her with a dropkick. Williams pulled Mayhew up and delivered a big German suplex.
Gemma Foster: Williams and Mayhew nicely matched in this opening bout.
Williams delivered a dropping elbow to Mayhew before covering, only getting two. Mayhew got to her feet and tried for a DDT but Williams drove her into the corner. He lifted her to the top turnbuckle and climbed after her. Williams looked for an ace cutter off the top rope but Mayhew held onto the ropes and let Williams crash to the floor. He staggered to his feet and she dove at him and hit a tornado DDT.
Gemma Foster: A big DDT!
Mayhew pulled herself up and Williams wasn’t too far behind. Mayhew looked at the ropes and hit the Kneed You Tonight (Springboard Knee Strike)! Mayhew covered and hooked a leg, getting two as Williams was able to reach out and grab the bottom rope. Mayhew got up and started to climb the top rope, wanting her Not Just Another Frog Splash but Williams got to his feet with his brother cheering him on. Williams ran to the corner and up the turnbuckle. He grabbed her and hit a big Samoan drop off the top! Williams rolled over and covered, getting a two count before Mayhew kicked out.
Gemma Foster: Bailey kicks out!
Williams looked out to his brother and got to his feet. He readied himself as Mayhew started to stand. Williams looked for a spear but ran into a lifting kick to the chest. Williams stood and was hit with Mayhew’s Brain Damage (Chris Hero's Death Blow)! She followed it right up with the Lockjaw (Osaka Stunner)! Mayhew covered and picked up the pinfall victory.
Gemma Foster: A big win for Bailey Mayhew in her return to EW.
Mayhew celebrated as the Williams brothers regrouped outside the ring as they made their way to the back.
Harvey Carbine w/ Josh Cherry Vs. Dave Blazenwing w/ Luke Mathews
Gemma Foster: This is a highly combustible match up as these two teams do not like each other. Blazenwing and Mathews had the Tag Team Championship won at Next Level: Revolution but Midnight Special got themselves disqualified to save the titles.
Blazenwing and Mathews made their way out to the stage first with Mathews in a nice black suit jacket and a light blue shirt under. Blazenwing jumped up and down as he fired himself up before making his way down. Midnight Special rushed Blazenwing and Mathews from behind with shots to the back with their championship belts.
Gemma Foster: You’ve got to be kidding me!
Cherry and Mathews battled as Luke tried to get his jacket off. Blazenwing rolled down the ramp as Carbine stomped on him. He pulled Blazenwing up and rolled him into the ring. Carbine climbed into the ring and hit a running forearm smash to the face as Blazenwing stood. The bell sounded as the fighting outside the ring kept going. Carbine started to set up for a German suplex but Blazenwing countered with a hard elbow to the side of the head. Blazenwing sent Carbine into the ropes and met him with a Thesz press and started to land hard right hands. Blazenwing pulled Carbine to his feet and sent him into the corner. Mathews and Cherry rolled into the ring and kept fighting. The referee tried to get the two separated. Carbine grabbed one of the Tag Titles and aimed it at Blazenwing. He swung but Blazenwing ducked and rolled Carbine up with a school boy pin. The referee turned as Cherry and Mathews rolled out of the ring and counted the pinfall victory!
Blazenwing popped up and rolled out of the ring as Carbine kept trying to swing at Blazenwing. Blazenwing stepped up to Cherry on the outside of the ring and rocked him with a Full Effect (Sweet Chin Music)! Mathews gave Blazenwing a high five as they rolled into the ring. Carbine charged at Mathews but was tripped up and put into the Luke Lock (Gargano Escape).
Gemma Foster: Blazenwing and Mathews taking it to Midnight Special!
Cherry pulled Blazenwing out of the ring and the Primetime Champion Ben Macbeth rushed into the ring. Mathews released the hold and jumped up, running into Macbeth’s From Parts Unknown (360 Buzzsaw Kick)!
Gemma Foster: Macbeth is here!
Blazenwing fought off Cherry and pulled Mathews out of the ring as they stood on the ramp. EMBLEM stood in the middle of the ring and held up their championships.
Kayla Taylor Vs. Brighton Fischer
Gemma Foster: Brighton Fischer is wearing a knee brace after the attack from Daniel Daemon two weeks ago just as a precaution.
The lights in the arena flash from red to blue, in sync with the opening guitar riff of "Help Me" which is reminiscent of a siren. Shortly after the full band enters, Brighton Fischer makes her way onto the stage. She raises both fists into the air. While keeping her right fist raised, she reaches her left hand toward her waistband where she pulls her mouthguard and inserts it into her mouth. She pointed at the GRRRLS armband and gave a pat to her knee brace. The lights stop alternating and remain crimson in color for the duration of the entrance. With her right fist still high, she begins to make her way down the ramp.
Gemma Foster: Fischer has been impressive here in her time in Empire Wrestling.
Taylor walked out to the stage and eyed down Fischer. She made her way down to the ring and jumped up to the apron and flipped into the ring. Taylor took a moment to pose and flex for the camera before turning back to Fischer. The two locked up and Taylor rushed Fischer into the corner and started to land strikes to the head. Taylor connected with a belly to belly slam to force Fischer to the may. Taylor quickly stomped on the knee of Fischer and started to set up for a Texas cloverleaf but Fischer was able to kick Taylor away. Fischer climbed to her feet and grabbed the forearm of Taylor and locked in a hammerlock. Fischer then applied a cobra clutch that she turned into a cobra clutch slam. After the slam she then landed a standing moonsault and went into a cover for two. Taylor powered up to her feet and ducked a superkick. Fischer turned to Taylor who scooped her up and delivered a Michinoku Driver. Taylor rolled to her feet and caught Fischer with the Plan A (Shining Wizard). Taylor went into a cover and picked up two before Fischer was able to kick out.
Gemma Foster: Fischer and Taylor each out here with something to prove tonight.
They both got to their feet and Taylor connected with a bridging German suplex and looked for a pin but got two again. Fischer rolled to her feet and connected with a spinning back elbow to the face of Taylor and then went right into a rolling elbow. Taylor was stunned which allowed Fischer to grab her and hit her with a ripcord knee strike and then a bicycle knee. Fischer lifted Taylor up and connected with the Hook, Line, & Sinker (The Bitter End). Fischer rolled Taylor into a cover and picked up the pinfall victory.
Gemma Foster: What a win for Brighton!
Fischer rolled to her feet with a big smile as she leaned over the ropes and flipped out to the apron.
Lacy Nelson Vs. Austin Scott
It was main event time as Austin Scott hit the stage. He quickly made his way down to the ring first and awaited his opponent. A video clip of him losing the Extreme Championship to Allen Chaney was shown.
Gemma Foster: Talking with Austin Scott before the show tonight and he’s insistent that he’s going to take back the Extreme Championship from Allen Chaney.
Out came the World Champion, Lacy Nelson, with her brand new World Championship. She adjusted the belt on her shoulder and then started her walk to the ring. She climbed into the ring and took off her jacket and tossed it away as she gave another pose with the title over her head.
Gemma Foster: Lacy Nelson looking good with that brand new championship belt.
Nelson handed off the title to the referee and was attacked from behind by Scott. Scott started to stomp on Nelson and then jumped on her ankle.
Gemma Foster: Austin Scott with a vicious stomp on the ankle of Lacy Nelson!
Nelson rolled out of the ring and fell into the barricade as Scott went after her. Nelson attacked with right hands and pushed Scott back first into the apron. Nelson jumped on the apron and got pulled down quickly as her face went off the apron. Scott rolled her into the ring and climbed in after her. Nelson crawled into the corner and Scott hit the far side of the ropes and came back to Nelson, looking for the Goin' Muddin' (Opponent is seated in the corner, charges and connects with a running knee to the skull) but she moved out of the way. Nelson rolled to her feet and hit Scott with a spear as he turned around. Scott rolled out of the ring and Nelson readied herself. Nelson ran and dove through the ropes with a suicide dive! Nelson was fired up as she pulled Scott up and rolled him into the ring. Nelson climbed into the ring and hit the ropes as Scott started to sit up and connected with the Hollywood Split (Shining Wizard). Nelson covered and Scott kicked out at two.
Gemma Foster: A close one but Scott able to power out of the pin.
Nelson pulled Scott up to his feet and sent him into the corner. Nelson charged and ran into a big boot to the face. Scott ran off the ropes and rocked Nelson with Straight Whiskey (Running lariat). Scott climbed to the second rope and dove, hitting a leg drop onto Nelson. Scott covered and picked up a two count as Nelson kicked out. Scott pulled Nelson up and she started to fight back with right hands. She sent him into the ropes but he returned with a big boot. Scott lifted Nelson up and pulled her onto his shoulder for the Booze Cruisin' (Oklahoma Slam). He ran her into the corner back first but she slipped behind him before he could slam her. She jumped up and connected with Le Gasp (Lungblower Backbreaker). Nelson rolled Scott over for a pin and only got two.
Gemma Foster: Scott still with something left in the tank.
Scott rolled and took Nelson down with a chop block. He rolled her into an anklelock and tried to get her to tap. Nelson tried to get to the ropes but Scott kept pulling her back to the center of the ring. Nelson rolled forward and sent Scott into the corner. Nelson approached and walked into an elbow to the face. Scott grabbed Nelson and delivered his Law and Order (Pumphandle Slam). He covered and Nelson grabbed the ropes at two!
Gemma Foster: Nelson with great ring awareness.
Scott grabbed Nelson and started to pull her up. She pushed away and caught him with the superkick! Scott dropped to a knee and this allowed Nelson to hit him with the Headline (Eat Defeat). Nelson covered and picked up the pinfall win.
Gemma Foster: Lacy with the hard fought victory here tonight!
Nelson grabbed her World Championship as she stood and celebrated in the ring for a few moments. She looked up at the ramp and held up the title as if to signal any challenger as we went off-air.
