Episode #38 - May 15, 2020
Scott Parker: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to episode 38 of Empire Wrestling's Hype! My name is Scott Parker and beside me is Gemma Foster.
Gemma Foster: Scott, it is really good to not only see you back behind the desk but to also be working side by side with you.
Scott Parker: I’m still a bit sore but we’re going to just move right along from it because not only will we determine number one contenders for both the Tag Team Championship and the Extreme Championship, we have big news. You heard it on Twitter yesterday but the former EW World Champion F.M. Young is back here in Empire Wrestling!
Gemma Foster: I’m so excited, Scott. FM is back and you know she’s ready for a fight. The fans at home have to be itching to see her back in the ring.
Scott Parker: Tonight, however, is all about getting one step closer to Hype #40 on May 29th.
The Grrrls (Bailey Mayhew/Caitlin Shay) Vs. The Crew (Jack and Josh Williams)
The Crew jogged out onto the stage with a big smile and gave a pose at the top of the ramp. They quickly looked down to ringside and the camera turned with them to show Cherry and Carbine, Midnight Special, the Tag Team Champions.
Scott Parker: Sitting behind the barricade, ringside, are Josh Cherry and Harvey Carbine. Midnight Special are scouting their opponents for Hype 40 where they’ll defend the belts in a three way tag team match.
Gemma Foster: Cherry and Carbine have spent 234 days as Tag Team Champions. That is the single longest reign in Empire Wrestling as Tag Champs. If it’s up to EMBLEM they’ll hold onto the titles forever.
Josh and Jack had entered the ring and chatted in the corner of the ring. “Shitlist” by L7 started to play which signaled the entrance of Caitlin Shay and Bailey Mayhew, representing the Grrrls. They stepped onto the stage with their neoprene masks and GRRRLs shirts on. They both adjusted their armbands and bumped fists at the top of the ramp.
Gemma Foster: All four ladies of Grrrls with their own unique styles but I think that Bailey and Caitlin are going to match up really well together.
Shay and Mayhew climbed into the ring and tossed their shirts over the top ropes and were quickly ready for the match to start. Mayhew and Josh were going to start things off for their teams and locked up in the middle of the ring. Josh pulled Mayhew into a side headlock but she pushed him into the ropes but was hit with a shoulder block on the return. She popped up to her feet and they locked back up. Josh looked for a suplex but Mayhew blocked and got behind him. Mayhew jumped up and connected with a neckbreaker. Mayhew started to pull Josh up and he speared her into his corner where Jack tagged himself in. The Crew were both in the ring and they hit her with a double suplex. Mayhew climbed to her feet where Josh lifted her up and they connected with Mind Boggled [Josh lifts for a flapjack/Jack hits a jumping DDT].
Scott Parker: The Crew planting Bailey in the middle of the ring!
Jack rolled Mayhew into a cover but she kicked out at two. Jack pulled Mayhew to her feet and sent her into the ropes. He jumped over her as she ducked down and kept running. Jack turned back to her and she caught him with the Kneed You Tonight (Springboard Knee Strike)! Mayhew made a tag to Shay who jumped into the ring. Mayhew sent Jack into the corner and then whipped Shay into him where she caught him with a hard running forearm. She pushed Jack towards Mayhew who hit him with Brain Damage (Chris Hero's Death Blow). Mayhew pushed Josh off the apron and then dove through the ropes with a suicide dive! Shay went into a cover on Jack and got two as he was able to kick out just in time. Shay pulled Jack up to his feet and started to set up for the reverse STO but he spun away from her and hit Shay with a spinning back elbow to the face. Josh was back on the apron after he sent Mayhew into the steel steps and made a tag.
Gemma Foster: Josh and Jack Williams are in sync and rolling right now. This isn’t looking good for Shay and Mayhew.
The Crew were in the ring and hit Shay with the Alley Oops! [Josh hits a drop toe hold/Jack hits a superkick as they get up]. Josh went for a cover but Mayhew made the save at two. Mayhew pulled Josh up and hit him with a DDT and went to her corner. Shay crawled and made a tag and Mayhew jumped into the ring. Josh got to his feet and Mayhew hit Hurricane Bailey (Cyclone Kick). Jack jumped into the ring and ran into Brain Damage by Mayhew!
Scott Parker: Here come the Grrrls!
Shay was back in the ring and they tossed Jack out of the ring. Shay and Mayhew made a tag to make Shay legal and then flipped to make Mayhew legal again.
Gemma Foster: Smart move by Shay and Mayhew as they just gave themselves more time together in the ring by making those tags.
Shay charged at Josh and hit him with the Broken Ending (Wheelbarrow Driver) and rolled him over. Mayhew came flying off the top rope with the Not Just Another Frog Splash! Mayhew covered and picked up the victory.
Scott Parker: Bailey and Caitlin have earned a Tag Team Championship opportunity!
Caitlin leaned over the ropes and pointed out at Midnight Special and motioned for the titles around her waist. Bailey patted her on the back with a smile as the two left the ring with Cherry and Carbine watching on.
Old Guard (Dave Blazenwing & Luke Mathews) Vs. Ragnarok (Fenryr Wulfsson & Karli Frost)
Scott Parker: You heard the announcement there, but Dave and Luke have officially been deemed the Old Guard.
Gemma Foster: I think it’s perfect, Scott. Dave Blazenwing has been wrestling for 17 years, Luke Mathews has 15 years, and between the two they have 42 championships!
Blazenwing came jogging out to the stage with a smile on his face. He flipped his hair back and threw a fist in the air. He too saw Midnight Special and started walking their way, jawing at them the whole time. Luke Mathews came out in his NFG shirt and walked down the ramp quickly. Mathews and Blazenwing got in the faces of Midnight Special who stood up in the front row and just held up the titles. This allowed Ragnarok to run down and attack Dave and Luke from behind before the bell rang. Fenryr tossed Dave into the steel steps as Luke and Frost fought around the ring. Frost tossed Luke towards Fenryr and he drove him onto the floor with a spinebuster.
Gemma Foster: This is outrageous.
Fenryr lifted Luke and rolled him into the ring. Karli Frost covered and yelled at the referee to make the count. He rang the bell and got into position and Luke kicked out just a little after one. Mathews fought his way to his feet with right hands and got Frost against the ropes. Fenryr tried to charge but got flipped over the top rope and to the floor on the outside. Fenryr stood and walked right into Blazenwing’s Full Effect (Sweet Chin Music)!
Scott Parker: The Old Guard isn’t down and out just yet.
Blazenwing jumped onto the apron and made a tag to enter the ring. Frost turned and hit Mathews with a spear. She popped up and ducked a diving forearm to the face from Blazenwing. Blazenwing got up to his feet and Frost took him to back down with a Russian leg sweep. She made her way to the corner where Fenryr was just getting back to the apron. He reached in and made the tag and entered the ring. Blazenwing was up and turned right into a hard chop to the chest from Fenryr that echoed in the empty Warehouse. Blazenwing turned and grabbed his chest which allowed Fenryr to hit the Gravedigger (Full Nelson Legsweep Faceplant). Fenryr covered with a forearm across the face of Blazenwing and Mathews pulled Fenryr off and went right back to his corner. Fenryr made a tag to Frost and she got back into the ring.
Gemma Foster: While the Old Guard might not be down just yet, Ragnarok’s pre-match attack has kept them off balance.
Frost came off the top rope looking for the Hookup (Flying Neck Breaker) but Blazenwing moved out of the way. He hit the ropes and Mathews made a tag as Blazenwing charged back at Frost and he hit her with a big running forearm strike. He lifted Frost up and hit a Death Valley Driver as Mathews jumped off the top rope and hit a huge shooting star press.
Scott Parker: You don’t see it often but Luke just came off the top rope and connected!
Mathews covered and Frost kicked out just after two. He pulled her to her feet and Frost connected with a rake to the eyes to get some separation. Frost made a tag to Fenryr and he climbed back inside. Fenryr used his power to lift Mathews up with the 9-9-9 (Gorilla Press Slam). Fenryr knocked Blazenwing off the apron with a running back elbow and then turned back to Mathews. Fenryr grabbed Mathews and started to set up for Hel Road (Double Underhook Powerbomb). Mathews countered with a backdrop and turned back to Fenryr as he stood. Mathews hit the ropes and connected with the Tower of Power (Clothesline From Hell). Fenryr staggered backwards and Frost made a tag. She jumped into the ring and Mathews was ready and delivered the Northern Trio (Three consecutive Northern Lights Suplexes) into a bridging pin. Fenryr broke it up at two with a hard stomp. Mathews got up and made a tag to Blazenwing who jumped into the ring. Blazenwing and Mathews hit Fenryr with a picture perfect combo as Blazenwing hit the Full Effect and Mathews hit the X-Plex (Pete Dunne version). Blazenwing grabbed Frost and locked in the Firehawk Lock (Crippler Crossface) and Mathews locked in the Luke Lock (Gargano Escape) on Fenryr.
Gemma Foster: Ragnarok is in trouble!
Midnight Special jumped into the ring and started to stomp and attack Mathews and Blazenwing as the referee called for the bell, giving Old Guard the DQ win.
Scott Parker: Midnight Special is attacking the Old Guard once again and has forced the disqualification.
Midnight Special and the Old Guard started to brawl in the ring and Ragnarok rolled out of the ring, not happy. The referee kept calling for the bell as the two teams brawled to the outside and then up the ramp, into the back.
Phoenix Heart
The voice of Porcelain Black ring's out, “I'm on the battlefield, like, oh my God ...Knockin' soldiers down like House of Cards...I'M A ONE WOMAN ARMY...” before the intense driving sirens of “Gasoline” By Porcelain and the Tramp. A small video package plays showcasing the achievements of F.M. Young in both Empire Wrestling and BWF. It displays her Sovereign Championship win, her capturing the Empire Heavyweight Championship in the King of the Mountain match, and various other achievements of her career. It fades into orange and purples letters spelling “THE RETURN” and “#HeartofthePhoenix.”
F.M. Young walks down the ramp and to the ring, even devoid of an audience, the woman is smiling, looking much less stern than her usually stoic demeanor.
Scott Parker: She’s back ladies and gentlemen! I wasn’t expecting her here tonight but it just looks like FM couldn’t wait to get back to EW. She looks excited to be here, Gemma.
She gets to the ring and collects a microphone, pulling off her leather jacket and hanging it on the ring post. The One Woman Army sits herself down on the apron placidly, hands between her knees, she lifts to the mic to her face and takes a breath.
FM Young: I know, there's no audience today and I prefer you all being safe in your homes...But for mostly selfish reasons I wanted to come out here and do this the way I've always done it. Every time I talk to my fans, it's been in this open and honest environment. I don't want to change that and I've got some important things to say, so I'm out here to lay it all out.
FM leans back, taking a relaxing posture against the ropes.
FM Young: The twitter rumors are true, I'm returning to Empire Wrestling and it truly feels like coming home. Before anyone has the chance let me say it for you, I know, I didn't say goodbye. I didn't do the due diligence I should have, for my fans or my coworkers, for anyone really. All I can do is work harder to make up for that, but trust me when I say this guys you wouldn't have wanted to see me. A year ago, I tore my arm up badly and regardless of what Lacy Nelson might have you think, it wasn't her. It was all me. I was self-assured and I went overboard. I know, I know, a dirty word.
FM chuckles, smiling at the lyrical reference and gives the camera a wink.
FM Young: I had this idea in my head that I should either be immortal or die in the ring and I pushed so hard to make either of those things happen. I felt like, no matter what I did, I wasn't doing enough like I was always just centimeters away from greatness no matter what I achieved and anything I did was just never going to cut it. I wasn't focused on being happy with what I had because I was too focused on what would be left when I couldn't do this anymore. After I wore my arm muscles clean out, I broke. I couldn't come out here and say goodbye because I hated myself and I would have worked to make you hate me too.
FM sits for a moment, just breathing, a half-sad look as she catches sight of the camera again.
FM Young: I'm going to tell you something… It would be true to say THAT FM Young died in the ring. After I got out of the hospital, when I finally acknowledged I needed to take care of myself. I realized I couldn't do that anymore. I felt like I took my entire tenure as the last Heavyweight Champion for granted. I didn't have that driving rage inside of me anymore, this selfish and intense desire to be respected and acknowledged. I realized it doesn't matter if you can't live with yourself. Over my recovery time, I worked to become someone I could love again, someone I could live with. Out of the ashes of that rage, of that selfishness, came a woman who had her passion again. Out of the old FM Young, came a woman who loves to fight, and wants to entertain, who only needs to fight because she has a genuine desire for this sport, to be in the ring, for its fans and facing its fighters again.
FM stands up and grabs her jacket, slinging it over her shoulder with a smile, seeming content with herself.
FM Young: Out of the ashes of a woman who was driven by rage and an absolute fear of failure… Comes a woman who just wants to fight. I admit, new FM seems a lot like old FM, but she doesn't tick the same way. She won't hide from her failures, she won't run from her fans… She lives and breathes to do what she does best. Fight and have fun doing it. To be the workhorse Superstar who loves this business and be the woman who can put a company on her back with glee. I am THE One Woman Army and I have the Heart of Phoenix!
The last part of her sentence was the only time FM raised her voice, standing there doing her signature Wonder Woman pose for the camera, before casually strolling back up the ramp.
Gemma Foster: What a promo, Scott. FM Young sounds like she’s back and better, and more focused, than ever.
#1 Contendership Extreme Championship
Zoey Mathews-Mitchell Vs. Alicia Monroe
Gemma Foster: This should be an interesting match, Scott. Remember that the winner will go on to face Allen Chaney in two weeks. Alicia Monroe had an impressive win last week against Kaito Hirano and Zoey Mathews-Mitchell took on Gio DeLuca in an Extreme Division match that she won.
Alicia Monroe made her way out to the ring first with Casey Grey already sitting front row. Grey once again had a crutch with her and a big knee brace. Monroe quickly made her way down the ramp and went under the ring and pulled out a table. She set it up on the outside and went back under the ring as Zoey Mathews-Mitchell started to make her way out.
Scott Parker: Alicia Monroe doing a little bit of decorating before Zoey comes down.
Zoey had her neoprene mask on with her kendo stick sitting on her shoulder. She removed the mask and tossed it off to the side and started her way down the ramp. Monroe had slid another table into the ring, along with a steel chair. Zo entered the ring as she dropped the kendo stick in the corner and the two circled each other as the bell rang. They gave each other a quick fist bump and locked up. Zo hit a couple quick right hands that she flowed right into an European uppercut. Monroe staggered back but reared back and blasted Zo with a big forearm smash. Monroe went right into a dropkick to the knee that dropped Zoey to the mat. Zo climbed to her feet and Monroe took her down with a swinging neckbreaker. Monroe smiled as Grey cheered her on and started to pull Zoey up. Zoey tried to fight back but got sent into the corner. Monroe charged but ran into an elbow to the face. Zoey grabbed Monroe and drove her into the mat with a belly to belly suplex.
Scott Parker Evenly matched to get things started here in this match.
Monroe got to her feet with a hard forearm smash to the face. She used the opening to connect with a quick snap suplex. Zoey started to stand and Monroe grabbed her and hit the Freebird (Running Bulldog) right onto the chair in the ring! Monroe went for a cover, just barely getting two. Monroe slowly pulled Zoey up and hit her with a kick to the gut. Monroe sent Zoey to the ropes but Zoey ducked a clothesline and kept running. She ducked a second clothesline and connected with a slingblade to take Monroe down. Zo pulled Monroe up and sent her up and over the top rope to the apron and then the floor. Zo hit the ropes and looked for a baseball slide but Monroe moved out of the way. Monroe grabbed Zo and sent her hard into the steel post. Zoey bounced off it and staggered and turned. Monroe charged but ran into a kick to the gut before Zoey delivered a DDT onto the floor.
Gemma Foster: Monroe planted onto the floor!
Zoey started to look under the ring and found a trash can that she tossed into the ring. Monroe crawled over to the barricade as Zoey adjusted her knee pads and armband. Zo started walking over to Monroe and Monroe grabbed the crutch from beside Casey Grey and cracked it over the head of Zoey!
Scott Parker: What a shot!
Zoey fell back onto the ground and was dazed. Monroe hit her with a basement dropkick to the face. Monroe pulled Zo up to her feet and rolled her into the ring. She hurried to the apron and climbed to the top ropes before diving, hitting the Phoenix Dive (Swanton Bomb). Monroe hooked a leg into the cover and got a two count as Zoey kicked out just in time. Monroe looked out and saw the table sitting beside the ring and started to think of ideas. She pulled Zoey up and grabbed her by the hair. She tried to toss her over the top rope and into the table but Zo landed on the apron. Zoey hit a headbutt on Monroe and pulled her onto the apron. The table, sitting flush with the apron, provided an extra place to stand. Zoey tried to DDT Monroe but Monroe landed hard shots to the sides of Zo. Monroe tried to spear Zoey into the outside post but Zo turned and Monroe went head first into the post. Monroe staggered backwards on the apron and Zoey jumped up and drove her through the table with the Faceplant (Famouser)!
Gemma Foster: I don’t think Monroe is moving!
Both competitors were down and slow to move. Zoey climbed to her knees and grabbed Monroe, slowly pulling her up to her feet. Monroe was rolled into the ring and Zoey crawled in after as Grey shouted for Monroe to get up. Zoey went for a cover and got two as Monroe just kicked out.
Scott Parker: Still some fight left in Alicia!
Zo sat up and looked around the ring for a moment and started to pull Monroe up before sending her into the corner. Monroe ran up the turnbuckle, maybe looking for a standing version of her White Lightning (Moonsault) but Zoey pushed her leg out. Zoey climbed up after her and pulled Monroe to her feet.
Gemma Foster: A dangerous position for both ladies to be in, Scott.
Zoey eyed the mat and flipped, driving Monroe into the trash can in the ring with the Z4 (Spanish Fly)! Zoey covered and got the three count for the win.
Gemma Foster: What a match.
Scott Parker: Zoey Mathews-Mitchell pulling out all the stops and will go on to face Allen Chaney in two weeks!
Zoey sat backwards on her butt and leaned against the turnbuckle. She grabbed her kendo stick and held it high as she rolled out of the ring. Monroe was checked on by referees as Zoey nodded her way and left.
Allen Chaney Vs. Lacy Nelson
Scott Parker: Main event time and this one is a non-title champion versus champion match.
Gemma Foster: You know that Allen was just backstage watching the last match so I’m sure he’s got some excitement to come out here and give Zoey some tape to watch on him.
Chaney hit the stage first with the Extreme Championship on his shoulder. He showed it off towards the camera and said to “come get it”.
Scott Parker: Allen Chaney showing off the Extreme Championship for the first time since winning it back at Next Level: Revolution.
He placed it back on his shoulder as he started to make his way down to the ring. He rolled right under the ropes and popped up to his feet. Chaney placed the title on the top turnbuckle and climbed up as he cracked his knuckles. “Come and Get It” by I Prevail kicked up and out walked the World Champion, Lacy Nelson. She looked over the top of her sunglasses and tossed them aside. She opened her jacket and showed off the championship with a smirk to the camera. She walked down the ramp and tossed her jacket over to the steps as she jumped up onto the apron. Nelson climbed into the ring and put her championship on the apron for the timekeeper to grab. Chaney and Nelson circled each other as the bell sounded. Chaney looked to lock up but Nelson took a step back and looked for a side headlock but Chaney spun her around quickly. The two went into a collar and elbow tie up and moved around the ring. Chaney powered Nelson into the corner and the referee forced a break.
Gemma Foster: A lot of feeling each other out right now.
Chaney drove his shoulder into the gut of Nelson and backed up. He charged and ran into a boot to the face. Nelson jumped to the second rope and looked for a double axe handle smash but Chaney caught her and applied a bearhug. He squeezed and Nelson tried to fight out. She clubbed the back of Chaney and eventually got him to break the hold. Chaney was pushed away and hit with a spear. Nelson was moving slowly as she pulled Chaney up and sent him into the corner. She charged and hit a clothesline that forced Chaney to the mat in a seated position. Nelson hit the ropes and came running back and put her hip into the face of Chaney.
Scott Parker: Allen just took the full force of Lacy’s… rear end.
Gemma Foster: Booty smash!
Nelson pulled Chaney out of the corner and started to set up for El Editor (Hammerlock DDT) but Chaney countered into a fisherman’s suplex. Chaney rolled to his feet, shaking his head. He readied himself on his feet as Nelson stood and he took her down with a clothesline. Chaney pulled Nelson up and sent her into the ropes and on the return hit a back drop. Nelson hit the mat and rolled into the corner in a seated position of her own. Chaney ran and flipped, hitting a big cannonball splash in the corner! Chaney pulled Nelson out of the corner and covered but just got two. Chaney started to pull Nelson up but she rolled him up with a small package, getting two. Both competitors got to their feet and Chaney side stepped a superkick from Nelson.
Gemma Foster: Lacy just missing with that superkick!
Nelson stumbled and turned into Chaney pulling her into position and hitting the Set-up (Double Arm DDT). She rolled over and Chaney got to his feet. He hit the ropes and came back with the Makin Pancakes (Running Senton)! Chaney quickly went into a cover and Nelson got her foot on the ropes at two.
Scott Parker: A close two count there for Allen.
Chaney started to pull Nelson up but she held onto the ropes as she stood. Chaney reached for Nelson but took an elbow to the face. Nelson jumped up and took Chaney down with an ace cutter. Nelson pulled herself up as Chaney rolled up to his knees. He started to get up and Nelson rocked him with the Hollywood Split (Shining Wizard). Nelson covered and got a big two count as Chaney kicked out. Nelson fixed her tugged on the top of her boot and sat beside Chaney as he laid there. The two started to get up, pulling each other up and Chaney looked for another Set-Up but Nelson spun away. She ducked under a clothesline and quickly turned to hit Le Gasp (Lungblower Backbreaker). Nelson pulled herself up in the corner and leaned against the post before going to Chaney. Chaney rolled her up with a small package of his own and got a two count before Nelson kicked out.
Gemma Foster: Back and forth two counts for these two.
Chaney rolled to his feet and quickly looked for the Aristocrats (Curb Stomp) but Nelson dodged it. Chaney stomped the mat before turning around, right into the superkick of Nelson! Nelson pulled Chaney up to only put her foot in his jaw and hit the Headline (Eat Defeat). She rolled Chaney over and climbed on him for the three count.
Scott Parker: What a match!
Lacy sat up with a big sigh and smile. She took a deep breath before climbing to her feet, the referee raising her hand in victory before she was given her championship. She reached out of the ring and asked for the Extreme Championship too. She grabbed it and took a knee beside Chaney as he sat against the ropes. She handed it to him and patted him on the shoulder before she turned away. She held the World Championship up and then placed it on her shoulder as she looked up at the ramp.
Gemma Foster: Lacy sees everyone in the back and knows there’s a war coming for her. The only question is who will her first challenger be?
Scott Parker: That’s a good question, Gemma. Maybe Daniel Daemon? What about the returning FM Young? Maybe Allen Chaney gets another shot at the champion? Or Ben Macbeth? There’s a lot of potential matchups for Lacy and she’s ready for all of them.
The show ended with Nelson on the second turnbuckle looking down to the camera with a smile, patting the title on her shoulder.
[/b][/div]Gemma Foster: Scott, it is really good to not only see you back behind the desk but to also be working side by side with you.
Scott Parker: I’m still a bit sore but we’re going to just move right along from it because not only will we determine number one contenders for both the Tag Team Championship and the Extreme Championship, we have big news.
