State of the Empire
Hello everyone,
The last time I had one of these the COVID-19 pandemic was really setting in as it was April 4th, 2020. For the last 9 months we, mostly, have been holding weekly Hype events outside of the few setbacks hindering shows IE, my mother passing, getting back to work and my schedule changing drastically due to it and COVID.
While 2020 was an awful year for many, in many ways it was one of my favorite when it comes to being a fed-head. From about May until September, EW was thriving with, what I think, are some of its best results ever. While I’ve changed up the formatting in recent weeks to make sure shows get up more on time with my own work schedule, I think that there’s plenty great to come. With a new year sometimes comes a changing of the guard, new opportunities, and just a push to kick the year off right.
Empire Wrestling, as everyone should know by now, has joined up with the BWF to create the UWA, United Wrestling Alliance. We’re moving boards and will be looking to do crossover shows and eventually have one or more “UWA” branded champions that carry the title from brand to brand. But that’s down the road still.
Both Dave and I are excited to see what can come of UWA and have no problem with people being in both feds if someone so chooses. To make that work Empire Wrestling will be going back to the bi-weekly format with one caveat; we’ll be having two shows every two weeks. Breakout will run on Wednesdays and Hype will run on Saturdays. This gives us the same amount of shows a month, but spacing them out to bi-weekly.
I know that this time of the year it hard for a lot of people with their time usually being pulled many different ways or just not feeling motivated. Trust me, I get it. That being said, Empire Wrestling stars are expected to be involved to receive a push. The Afterparty area for the shows should be utilized because it really gives your character a voice. Seeing them react to their matches or even other matches shows what they want out of being here. Another way to build yourself is submitting segments for the shows. I take them all the way up until late in the day on the day the show airs.
I want everyone to continue to utilize Twitter and such for show build up but the reaction in these areas is key as it’s hard to convey development in 240 characters on Twitter.
If you have ideas but just can’t execute let me know and I’ll help you whip something up in the current style of “The Angle” and narrating what happened for the show.
2020 was great for EW. Let’s make 2021 even better. I’ll be doing a small recruitment drive over the next few weeks as I’ll be looking for some fresh talent to freshen up some matchups but if there’s anyone you’d really like to do a program with let me know. Let’s make it happen.
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy in these times. My inbox and DMs are always open if you need to chat.
