Next Level: Affliction - August 24, 2016
Scott Parker: We’re back, we’re live, and we’re here inside the EW Warehouse for tonight’s Next Level event, Affliction!
Gemma Foster: It feels great to be back after the short break and tonight is set to be full of hard hitting action.
Scott Parker: Billy Way left the last show with the EW Heavyweight Championship but it was confiscated backstage after that show. You can imagine that Ben Macbeth hasn’t let the championship out of his sight since that night and will have a boot ready for Way’s head.
Gemma Foster: Mr. Mason made this match after it being the clear choice. Macbeth couldn’t defeat Azarov on Animosity #23, Way still wanted his rematch and inserted himself into the title picture once again.
Chris Stevens Vs. Chris Vector
The opening match saw Chris Stevens of BWF fame make his EW debut. He entered the ring Stevens leaned against the far turnbuckles as he awaited his return match. Chris Vector made his way out second and he carried a picket sign saying “Unfair” on one side and “The man is holding me down” on the other. He climbed into the ring and put his sign in the corner as things were about to get underway. Stevens and Vector locked up and Stevens hit an opening forearm to the face before getting behind Vector. Stevens locked in a sleeper hold but was quickly pushed backwards into a corner back first. Vector turned and landed hard right hands and then delivered a hard knee to the gut. He started to land a series of hard kicks in the corner before whipping Stevens across the ring and into the ropes. Vector delivered an arm drag and Stevens rolled up to his feet. Stevens hit a charging Vector with a standing dropkick and quickly rolled him into a rear chinlock. Vector was able to eventually get to his feet and threw hard elbows into the gut of Stevens to break the hold. Stevens tried to pull Vector down into the Tap or Suffer (Crossface) but Vector whipped Stevens into the ropes and hit a back body drop. Vector hit the ropes and connected with the Go Against Me (Running Senton). Vector rolled Stevens into the Trapped Fish (STF). Stevens fought and was able to pull himself to the ropes and got a break. Vector began to shout at the referee and grabbed his sign. He turned as Stevens stood and broke it over his back to cause the disqualification.
Vector picked up the two pieces of his sign and rolled out of the ring and shouted at the fans ringside.
Scott Parker: Chris Vector with no care in the world when it comes to the fact he just lost this match.
Gemma Foster: Probably not the way Chris Stevens pictured his debut here in EW.
Azurine Markos Vs. Caitlin Shay
The fans loved the arrival of Azurine Markos as she skipped out to the stage. As she walked to the ring, their cheers quickly turned to boos due to Caitlin Shay cutting her off. Shay and Markos met on the ramp and the two came to blows. Markos was hit with a series of lefts and rights and stumbled down the ramp and to the ring. She rolled in and Shay climbed in after her. Markos hit her with a forearm to the face and speared her to the mat. The two women rolled around and threw blows at each other.
Scott Parker: Caitlin is clearly here to send a message to Azurine. She is not happy about what happened at Domination in June.
Both ladies got to their feet and Markos drove her knee into the gut of Shay. Shay came right back with a jumping clothesline that dropped Markos. Markos rolled to her feet and was grabbed from behind. Shay started to set up for the Shayplex (Half Dragon Half Tiger Suplex) but Markos pushed backwards into the corner to break the hold. Markos ran against the ropes and Shay was right behind her and Shay speared her through the ropes and to the floor below. The referee tried to get the two back inside the ring. Gemma Foster: These two might just fight all night throughout the backstage area.
Sofia Harms Vs. Caleb Masterson
Masterson stood in the ring and hit the top turnbuckle pad a few times as he waited for his opponent to make her way down. The crowd gave Harms a nice little pop as her music hit. Harms made her way to the ring and climbed in with a smile on her face. She and Masterson locked up just after the bell sounded and he tossed her to the mat but she rolled right back up to her feet. She put her fists up as Masterson approached and she caught him with a hard right hand. Masterson staggered and charged right back with a running back elbow to dropped Harms. Masterson started to land hard kicks on Harms and she rolled away and out of the ring to reground. Masterson jumped out of the ring and went after Harms but she quickly rolled into the ring. Masterson climbed in and was taken down with a headscissors as he stood. Harms pulled Masterson up to his feet and sent him into the corner. Martin Karloff Vs. Cody Williams
Scott Parker: I’m really looking forward to this next match. Martin Karloff and Cody Williams are set for a rematch of their Animosity 20 match where Karloff made his EW debut.
Gemma Foster: You know that Cody wants to win this match more than any other EW match he’s had.
Cody Williams stood in the ring after making his way down the ramp with his big coat and sunglasses on. He teased handing them off to a fan and chuckled as he walked away and put them back on. The fans were ecstatic as Martin Karloff’s music hit and the lights dimmed. He made his grand entrance and Williams gave him a stare down. Karloff entered the ring and things were set to get started. Williams tossed his coat at Karloff to stun him briefly and charged with a running forearm smash. Karloff dropped to the mat and Williams began to hammer him with blows as Karloff was covered by the coat. The referee forced a break and Williams jumped away briefly before stomping on Karloff more. The referee threatened to disqualify Williams and he broke away. The referee removed the coat and Karloff slowly got to his feet as the fans booed Williams.
Scott Parker: Williams with some cheap blows to open things up.
Karloff was up and Williams was right in his face with quick forearms to the face. Williams pushed Karloff into the corner and charged and ran into a big boot to the face. Karloff took a moment and hit Williams with a bulldog as he spun away. Karloff pulled Williams to his feet and hit him with a stiff European uppercut. Salvatore hit a full nelson slam on Zach before hitting Chris Marshall with a big boot. Fantastico was engaged in battle in the corner with Rouse while Young was trying to dump Taylor over the top ropes. DeLuca charged Jew Blazer and was sent up and over the top ropes. DeLuca quickly jumped back into the ring and was hit with an arm drag by Jew Blazer. Williams was now working with Taylor to try and eliminate Young. Salvatore hit Jew Blazer with a powerslam just as Rouse sent Zach Marshall out of the match by sending him over the top and to the floor.

Gemma Foster: It’s a great night for underdogs!
EW PRIMETIME CHAMPIONSHIP
Ursula Areano Vs. Casey Grey [c]
Areano made her way to the ring and she was clearly fired up for the match. She began to stretch out as Grey’s music hit and she made her entrance. The fans were split between cheering for both competitors as the match started. The two stood in the ring as Grey held up the Primetime Championship and Areano started to point at it and then to herself. Grey handed the championship off and the two locked up. Areano pulled Grey down by her arm and applied pressure as she stood over her. Grey flipped over and pulled Areano down with an arm drag. The two women were to their feet and locked back up. Grey pulled Areano into position for a DDT but Areano spun away and grappled her from behind. Areano hit a belly to back slam and rolled Grey into a headlock. Areano rolled to her feet and was lifted up onto the shoulders of Grey as Grey hit Racklash (Rack Attack). Areano rolled out of the ring to the floor just as Grey went in for a cover. Grey took a few moments before going after Areano. Areano pulled Grey down with a drop toe hold. Grey stood and was hit with a reverse DDT. Areano climbed onto the barricade and looked for a hurricarana as Grey stood but was caught with a modified Your Fear and both were down. The referee got to the ten count before either could get back into the ring and we had a draw.
Scott Parker: The fans aren’t happy with how this one has ended.
Grey and Areano both got to their feet and immediately began to throw punches back and forth that got a pop from the fans. Trainers quickly came out and pulled the two apart.
Gemma Foster: These two simply don’t like each other and you add the Primetime Championship to the mix and things are heightened. Ursula wanted that championship so badly.
EW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Raza Azarov Vs. Billy Way Vs. Ben Macbeth [c]
All of the fans were on their feet and roared as the main event was about to get underway. Billy Way made his way to the ring first and didn’t get any love from the crowd.
Gemma Foster: Billy Way has never been liked much here in EW but he’s definitely been able to come out on top when it matters.
Scott Parker: He spent 138 days as EW Heavyweight Champion, which is currently the longest reign out of the three champions to hold it.
Way smirked as he climbed into the ring and the fans were just as loud as Raza Azarov made his way to the ring.
Scott Parker: I don’t believe the fans know what to think about Azarov, yet.
There was a mixture of cheers and boos as Ben Macbeth made his way to the ring with the championship around his waist. He showed it off before making his way down and into the ring. Macbeth tossed off his jacket before entering the ring and handed off his championship. The referee went over the rules of the match with the competitors and the bell sounded. Azarov and Macbeth picked up right where they left off at the last Animosity as they began to hammer each other with hard blows. Way stood in the corner and just watched on. Azarov tossed Macbeth across the ring and the champ popped right back up to his feet and charged back at him. Macbeth speared Azarov into the corner and threw punches into his gut before being pushed off. Macbeth rolled to his feet and Azarov charged and hit a hard lariat. Macbeth rolled to his feet and hit an inverted atomic drop on Azarov that he followed with a running forearm to the face. Azarov dropped and rolled out of the ring as Macbeth kicked at him. Azarov started to pull Macbeth up to his feet on the apron and Way tried a school boy but Azarov rolled through and to his feet. Azarov charged at Way but Way hit the Nutcracker (Inverted Atomic Drop). Way hit the ropes and returned to hit Feel This (Corkscrew Flying Forearm Smash) but Azarov just staggered backwards. Way went to hit the ropes a second time but Macbeth pulled the ropes down and Way went falling over the top and to the floor. Macbeth entered the ring and started to unload on Azarov with a series of palm strikes before hitting a discus clothesline that sent Azarov falling into the ropes. Macbeth grabbed Azarov and delivered his Deepest Condolences (Rolling German Suplex) before slowly climbing back to his feet. All of the teams were in the ring as the bell sounded and all hell broke loose.

Grey quickly got to her feet and pushed Areano into the ropes and hit her with a shoulder block. Areano rolled backwards and to her feet. Grey caught Areano a running elbow to the face and she fell into the corner. Grey grabbed Areano from the corner and delivered a belly to belly suplex.
